The thumbnail is the first thing that you notice on a YouTube video, so it must directly catch the eye of the person who may come across your video and make them want to click on the video. When someone is browsing YouTube, they will be more likely to look at the thumbnails before reading the titles, so it is important to take care of yours!

In this video you will basically learn how to make a beautiful thumbnail that will catch the eye of the viewers. Please note that the thumbnail style shown in the video is mine, and that each thumbnail must be unique, this video is here to inspire you or give you ideas, copying the design or thumbnails of another YouTuber is not very original. So it's up to you to find your style and make your own thumbnails.

The recommended size is 1920x1080 pixels, or a FULL HD format. YouTube does not compress thumbnails and does not reduce their quality, certainly on YouTube it is very small, but the FULL HD format is used in the case of video integration especially. For example, as in my case, when I put a video on my site, as long as it is not launched, the thumbnail is displayed in large, the same for forums or Facebook. It is therefore preferable to plan ahead by making a large thumbnail.

As for the texts, write FAT story so that it is readable even when the thumbnail is in its smallest size and in a color that stands out well from the background of the video with a font that is pleasant to read. Do not put too much text, only the bare minimum, and highlight the keywords by changing their color if necessary.

Then add icons, logos, or photos that represent the theme of your video, again, be original and don't hesitate to make your own montages or edit the logos to personalize them.

I use Photoshop in the video but any photo editing software will do.
